Composite Design Specialist, Sr., 08-340

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Works from written procedures and drawings as well as direct communication of design concepts from engineering staff to fabricate composite aircraft and parts using fiber-reinforced epoxy (fiberglass,
Kevlar, Carbon), plastic materials, metal, and wood. - Mechanical assembly of subassemblies using hand and/or power tools.
- Designs and/or assists in mechanical design, assembly, and bench and flight testing.
- Work with engineers to improve assembly efficiency, productivity and product quality, including documentation of assemblies and fabrication procedures.
- Operates Mills, Lathes, Foam cutters, Band Saw, Drill Press, Disc Grinder, assorted hand power tools and cutting tools & Vacuum curing oven.
Required Qualifications & Background
- Technical degree or equivalent experience, 20+ years experience in composite fabrication and development of R/C aircraft and/or electro-mechanical devices & equipment.
- Experience with Mills, Lathes, Foam cutters, hand tools, including Band Saw, Drill Press, Disc Grinder, assorted hand power tools and cutting tools & Vacuum curing oven is required.
- Must have experience in design and fabrication of composite parts using prepreg and/or wet-layup materials and processes.
- Experience with CAD type design systems for creating designs and/or hardware a major plus.
- Significant experience designing, building, and flying R/C airplanes a plus.
- Must be able to work in a fast team environment.
- Must take responsibility for quality of work performed.
- Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Must have basic computer operation skills including familiarity with MS Word and Excel.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with employees in the Company.
- Must have ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
