AV’s hand-launched small unmanned aircraft systems are being used extensively by the military to give front line troops their own portable tool to acquire situational awareness.  This capability has helped save lives and improve operational effectiveness.

In the future, small aircraft such as Wasp, which weighs one pound, will help non-military personnel and organizations reduce costs and improve their effectiveness as well.  For example, law enforcement could use small UAS when helicopters are not immediately available to them, or to view dangerous situations without putting a pilot at risk. Similarly, border patrol agents could get a quick view of activity a few miles away without alerting the potential target.

With a variety of potential missions, small UAS can provide an efficient, effective and ready solution for many pressing challenges.
